This sickens me. I never liked the idea of a town, or worse a developer getting to say what’s obsolete and what isn’t and force someone to close down their buisiness. The area needs redevelopment but this isn’t the way to go about it.

I agree Greg. The Doo-Wop look in the Wildwoods is what makes it “The Wildwoods”!

This is another topic I could go on and on about. If this Seaport/Kings Inn project flies (and I don’t think it will) The designation “an area in need of improvement” will be used by smart (?) lawyers throughout the island to snatch up almost any property they want to. Even sadder, is the fact that the city fathers will let them, under the guise of progress, when it will really be under the guise of more money in someone’s pocket.

(Letter to the editor from NW City Council President Patrick Rosenello):
Thom,
I have read with interest both your online site as well as your posts on the DWPL blog. While I understand the concern you have with the process being used to hurt Doo Wop, I think it is misguided and misunderstood. If anything, in this instance, this redevelopment tool is the ONLY thing standing in the way of yet ANOTHER vinyl covered box “development.” This tool was the only thing available to the city to stop the rampant destruction of our tourism industry by greedy out of town developers. To somehow spotlight this particular tool at this particular time, I believe, is a disservice to the cause of preserving the Wildwoods that we know and love.
Right now, a developer could come in, without any designation, and tear down every single remaining Doo Wop motel in all of the Wildwoods. It is just this type of short sighted greed that myself and others in North Wildwood are trying to stop.
We have an opportunity to show everyone that a well thought-out, properly financed and properly executed pro-touorism business venture is feasible on the island. For anyone who has their eyes open, it is obvious that, as Dan MacElreavy has coined, “the rape and pillage by the pick-up truck developers” will continue, unless an alternative is brought forward.
I am not sure who, if anyone, you spoke with before you put your thoughts in writing. However, in the future, if you have questions about an issue, please feel free to contact me. I believe every reporter who has ever dealt with me will testify to the fact that I am always available, and will provide as much input and information as I can on just about any issue.

(From the editor):
After Mr. Rosenello’s thoughtful letter, I explained that it is not North Wildwood’s need to use the designation “an are in need of redevelopment” as a means of ensuring the proper development of this project that is my concern. In fact, I explained that I have said repeatedly that I believe the Seaport Village project, coupled with the proposed new 405-room condotel, is desperately needed and is a good thing for the entire island – even though it will mean the loss of this one Doo Wop motel, the King’s Inn.
(Just had a thought: Perhaps WB Resorts could be persuaded to also name the new building the King’s Inn or something similar, as well as designing it, like the proposed condotels coming to Wildwood, in a clearly Neo Doo Wop style. This would at least act as a tribute to the history of the property and to the island’s posterity).
Anyway, I have constantly championed this administration’s desire to preserve the Wildwoods as we know it through every single personal opinion I have ever given. This project is a good thing for THE WILDWOODS. Period!
However, I have also said that my concern is not for this administration’s good intentions; it is for the possibility that in the wrong hands, for the wrong reasons, by future developers or future politicians in any town, the tool could be used as an axe, to totally destroy our heritage. Because according to the criteria for redevelopment, almost everything on the island qualifies for redevelopment. So, destruction could be all too easy.
I believe 100 percent in the current NW administration’s intentions, as well as their love for the Wildwoods. But the truth is, there are certain politicians, as well as certain potential future politicians in this resort who I am convinced haven’t got a clue about what is needed for the island to progress, while still preserving our history. These people just do NOT care about anything but their own greed, or their personal hatred for other individuals or for other issues. They just do not care!
And if any of these folks are ever given the political power to influence policy (which is the main danger with a Commission form of government) the Wildwoods is in deep potential trouble.
I also believe, as I have said fanatically for at least 15 years, this island needs to very soon become one: one government, one vision, and one future. Although various good people around the island are doing some wonderful things, it is a fact that we must have one clear, unified, ISLAND-WIDE vision. We can only progress as a single resort if we have a single vision.
That means one government. One Planning Board. One island-wide master plan. ONE WILDWOODS!!
Me!

(In response to your front page article on July 16, 2007 about 117/119 East Young’s Ave) Yes on Memorial Day the police were called to the property for an altercation that was unfounded. At that time they arrested approximately 23 people for under age drinking not disorderly conduct. As the Manager of these properties I was there as the police arrived, an officer took my name as the manager. As the police could tell you I am on the properties and will call them myself if I can not handle a problem. I have no problem talking with my neighbors and the police, to handle any of there concerns. As for the nascent calls I believe there are more unfounded then founded and 99% of the call are coming from a neighbor on Spencer ave who has it out for us and will do anything to shut us down, but come and talk to us. I would like to add this last year we did have a going on problem and Mr. Lieble hired the Wildwood police department at approximately 300.00 a night to oversee the properties and stop the problem. I don’t see that as lurking in the dark or hiding from his responsibility’s. Yes Mr. Lieble does live in Philadelphia and never received a letter to go to court, if he did he would have been there.

I was just wondering if anyone has heard any information regarding a beach bike path that is supposed to be constructed along the entire island. Apparently this was brought us several years ago along with the creation of the dunes in Wildwood Crest. I think this would be a wonderful addition to the island and would attract more families to the resort. It is a beautiful beach and with so much space between the boards and the ocean, it would just add to the family atmosphere. Imagine riding along the dunes with the beach on one side and the boardwalk on the other. It would also allow riders more time to ride during the day. I can’t imagine a better addition for the resort. What do you think? I have done some research, but I have not found anything approving this path nor anymore meetings where it was proposed after 2007.
